The Chicago White Sox Charities Donate $1 Million to
© 2008 Chicago White Sox/Ron Vesely The Chicago White Sox Charities have pledged $1,000,000 in support of the one-of-a-kind Therapeutic School and Center for Autism Research. As the largest direct contribution to the project, the Chicago White Sox Charities has once again stepped up to the plate for the autism cause. In return for this generous support, Easter Seals will name the ballfield at the School in honor of the Chicago White Sox. In addition to financial support, White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen will serve as a celebrity spokesperson for the cause, helping to build awareness about autism and Easter Seals' services. On May 8, 2008. Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago President & CEO F. Timothy Muri, Chairman of the Board Bill Nolan and Easter Seals Autism Therapeutic School graduate and client Jamie Smith accepted a $1,000,000 check from the White Sox prior to the game against the Minnesota Twins. The Chicago White Sox Charities provides financial support to hundreds of area organizations each year. Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago has been a recipient of this support for many years, including a grant in 2007 to purchase athletic training equipment for the Special Olympics program. Additionally, the White Sox aided Easter Seals' fundraising efforts to send Special Olympian Jamie Smith's family to the World Games in October, 2007 to cheer Jamie on to his silver and bronze medal finish. Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago thanks the Chicago White Sox for their continuous support to help children and adults with disabilities succeed and live more independent lives. Easter Seals is proud to partner with the White Sox organization! |
